Please understand that the combination of Mitt Romney's belief in Mormonisn and his claim of not letting his belief effect a potential presidency is absurd kookiness. Please watch the video below... You must understand what mormons truly believe in order to catch a clue of the theological cookiness. This next video is not only a cartooon in production, but in profession as well because it is what mormons believe. Even scarier is this is what Mitt Romney candidate for President believes. What else could he be decieved about? More about Joseph Smith from the LDS church website - does this sound like biblical christianity? The campaign of Republican Mitt Romney released excerpts Thursday from a speech he is giving on religion in public life. Some of those excerpts are below: • "Freedom requires religion just as religion requires freedom. Freedom opens the windows of the soul so that man can discover his most profound beliefs and commune with God. Freedom and religion endure together, or perish alone." • "When I place my hand on the Bible and take the oath of office, that oath becomes my highest promise to God. If I am fortunate to become your president, I will serve no one religion, no one group, no one cause, and no one interest. A president must serve only the common cause of the people of the United States." • "There are some who would have a presidential candidate describe and explain his church's distinctive doctrines. To do so would enable the very religious test the founders prohibited in the Constitution. No candidate should become the spokesman for his faith. For if he becomes president he will need the prayers of the people of all faiths." • "The founders proscribed the establishment of a state religion, but they did not countenance the elimination of religion from the public square. We are a nation 'Under God' and in God, we do indeed trust." • "These American values, this great moral heritage, is shared and lived in my religion as it is in yours. I was taught in my home to honor God and love my neighbor. I saw my father march with Martin Luther King. I saw my parents provide compassionate care to others, in personal ways to people nearby, and in just as consequential ways in leading national volunteer movements." • "My faith is grounded on these truths. You can witness them in Ann and my marriage and in our family. We are a long way from perfect and we have surely stumbled along the way, but our aspirations, our values, are the selfsame as those from the other faiths that stand upon this common foundation. And these convictions will indeed inform my presidency." Source: Associated Pres |
If the Mormon perspective on our faith is biased then certainly the Anti-Mormon perspective is as biased in the opposite extreme. These videos are produced and distributed by individuals who are strongly against the Mormon faith and though they may be sincere in their feelings the information contained in this videos is a mixture of true Mormon beliefs with individual emotion, personal bias, and heavily slanted interpretations. Though the Mormon faith and it's detractors may be biased on the opposite ends of the spectrum note that the Mormon faith does not participate officially in attacking others faiths or even it's detractors. Take this website with a huge grain of salt. LDS church leadership has not directly influenced church members to vote for any particular candidate for well over 100 years. If Mitt were to be elected president and ask for guidance from the church leadership they probably would abstain or defer Mitt to prayer and fasting.
The issue isn't what the Mormon faith believes or doesn't, the issue is, does Mitt have the skills to successfully lead the nation? I'm not convinced on that point but I can say that his faith should not be a part of this discussion.
